Rooted in tradition
. . .
Producing
wines from fruit other than grapes is a tradition
of long standing in Northern Europe countries.
Wine-making processes remained very simple,
if not elementary, for a long time, preventing
fruit wines from achieving their full potential
and gaining the reputation they deserve.
Nowadays, fruit wine is still perceived as
a cottage industry, with :
- qualities, such as authenticity and tradition,
- and drawbacks, such as variable quality,
production on a small scale, and standards
of hygiene which might leave something to
be desired...

Roisin, in remembrance of a lost vineyard.

... and a fertile
soil
The village's coat of arms still bears the
words "De Roisin vient le vin" -
"Roisin, where the wine comes from"
- although it's a long time since the fruit
which gave it its name has been grown here.
It shows that this is particularly suitable
land for our production. Roisin, in the Honnelles,
is located in the Haut-Pays nature reserve,
the meeting-place of:
History and tradition.
Ancestral knowledge is preserved in museums
and among craftsmen. And the legendary bandit
Moneuse still frightens the children...
Art
From the famous poet Emile Verharen, the author
of "In praise of heaven and wind",
to the performers at the Eté Musical
de Roisin Music festival, generations of artists
in every field have been inspired by the beauty
of the region.
Nature
The legendary, magical "Caillou-Qui-Bique",
the peace and quiet of the two Honnelles,
and the unusual landscape reveal the beauty
that led to the Hauts-Pays park being protected. |

Let’s
cultivate our garden !
It was the combination of these positive aspects
and an ancient passion for wine that led Jean-Marie
Boucart to develop his expertise in fruit
wines over the years.
Like Voltaire’s Candide, he first travelled
the world, improving his knowledge of wine,
and then turned to the pleasure of cultivating
his own garden. In 1993, a quince tree planted
in the middle of his property produced his
first quince wine. This was the first step
on the road to the professionalism crowning
30 years of experience.
As Jean-Marie Boucart's technique became more
and more sophisticated, his success grew.
His secret lay in a more rigorous, scientific
approach to fruit wines, to which he adapted
the complicated process of grape vinification.
His son, Ludovic Boucart, now contributes
his considerable skills, an additional asset.
A qualified wine expert, recognised by his
peers, he is working towards full professionalisation
of production.
Now you can see why our symbol is the quince
tree; rooted in Roisin, the tree that produced
our first quince wine rests on two trunks
that can be seen as the father and the son,
tradition and professionalism. |
